Final Unit Project

Final Unit Project

Today I’m blogging about something related to one of my very favorite teaching topics – integrated/thematic units! When I was in the classroom, creating was one of my very favorite things to do. I love tying science and social studies learning into literacy instruction (and math-, when possible). When my kids are reading, writing, and learning about a topic or theme throughout the school day, they learn so much more vocabulary and gain so much more knowledge than if we are reading random texts during the literacy block and studying a topic only during science and social studies time. But moving on from my love affair with integrated unitsone of the most important parts (in my opinion) of an integrated unit is the final project!

Unit Circle is a handheld tool about the size of a book that allows students to swing a hand around a pivot point in the middle of a circle overlaid onto a coordinate plane system.

In a good final project, kids show what they’ve learned. But in a great final project, kids share what they’ve learned with a real audience and for a real purpose! Sometimes I’ve found that these projects don’t always make a great assessment for the unit – because they don’t thoroughly assess students’ understanding of the topics covered in the unit. In these cases, I have students complete a quiz or other small project in addition to the more “meaningful” final project for a real audience and a real purpose. This allows me to get an accurate picture of students’ learning while still providing a meaningful end-of-unit activity.

One of the best parts of developing a meaningful end-of-unit activity is that you can talk about it throughout the entire unit! When I introduce a unit, I mention what we will be doing at the end in a way that gets the kids excited and looking forward to the project. This also helps with motivation during the unit (“Why are we learning ?” “So that we can when we do our final project!” Do you create projects or assessments for your students that have a real audience and a real purpose? Happy teaching!

Professional Curriculum Plan Connection to Family Plan Final Project-Curriculum Unit Plan Heather Espinosa Intro to Cur & Inst for the Early Child Classroom ECE: 203 Instructor: Susan Krach-Hoge May 23, 2015 Introduction Many people influence a child’s development, be it directly or indirectly. Parents/guardians and educators play important roles in the developing child. Educators need to be aware and understand how they can support each individual child’s development: emotional, social, physical, and cognitive. “The stages that a child passes through both physically and intellectually are interesting to observe as well as crucial to understanding the development that leads to maturation” (Wilburn, R. Through observations, educators are able to assess individual students in all domain areas and create a plan that is meaningful and will improve student learning. Developing a curriculum plan will enable educators to meet the needs of each student and reach the goals that are set for them.

Final Unit Projector

It will also allow educators to provide families with ways that can help maximize the child’s development. The goal set will help the teacher to plan and develop a curriculum that will provide students with a meaningful, positive, and healthy learning opportunities and environment.

Developmental Age The unit plan that I have designed is developmentally appropriate for Kindergarten aged children. At this age children are like little explorers, they are curious and are eager to learn. “The primary focus of a curriculum for young children should be the integration of experiences across all of a child's developmental domains and learning through play” (Jaruszewicz, C., 2013, ch. They are active little learners that want and need the structure that a preschool setting offers.

They are also learning to be independent-decision makers and developing their own little personalities. Classroom Management My philosophy of classroom management would be where students are provided a safe and fun learning environment, where goals are set and achieved. “Principle of design that are considered when planning the environment include a vision for the kind of environment you want to create and attention to safety, movement, permanent features of the classroom, and planning space and materials for the kinds of behaviors and activities that you want to promote” (Jaruszewicz, C., 2013). A calm and structured environment will allow all students to feel safe and engage in learning, while minimizing distractions.

Theoretical Alignment Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky’s approach to development rested on the theory that possessing the ability to solve problems was much more valuable throughout life than simply learning statistics and facts. Along with problems solving, social skills are also required for success as an adult.

He referred to these skills as tools of the mind. Instead of memorizing a method to solve problems the child would develop skills that would allow him to identify a problem or friction point, assess the situation, and last develop a course of action.

Those skills are applicable throughout life whereas the memorization of facts may not always apply. These metal tools are gained through interpersonal contact with other children, teachers, and parents. It is common for children focus their attention to whatever demands attention the most such as loud noises or attractive colors. Until metal tools are developed, children will succumb to these distractions.

That leaves the environment in control of the method and effectiveness of learning. Learning in social environment teaches restraint and minimizes impulsive behavior. “In the same way that mental tools can transform children’s cognitive behaviors, using other mental tools can transform their physical, social, and emotional behaviors.” Establishing purposeful play events is a good avenue for the development of these tools. Children encounter and become accustomed to rules, social interaction, and practicing personal restraint. Curriculum approach The curriculum approach that I most closely adhere to is the creative curriculum.

Children learn by doing. This approach is specifically designed to enhance social/ emotional, cognitive, and language skills. The avenues in which the goals within this approach are met are mostly through interaction with children and adults and play. Every activity has a goal or objective in mind. “Intentional, teacher guided learning experiences are provided in large and small group settings” (What Works Clearinghouse, 2009). The approach also utilized a continuous assessment through observation.

The curriculum provides teachers with plenty of resources. The resources cover four areas such as curriculum, assessment, professional development, and techniques for making connections with families (Jaruszewicz, C., 2013). The theory behind this approach is that children learn best through play and that social interaction is required for development. The theory is supported by studies that conclude that interacting with adults in a healthy way provides a foundation for learning. Another example of once of the principles within the creative curriculum is that constructive purposeful play supports essential learning (Jaruszewicz, C., 2013). Developmentally Appropriate Practice It is important that a developmentally appropriate practice is fostered in the classroom. The developmental ages and stages of children should be used to guide and inform decisions that teachers make about curriculum (Jaruszewicz, C., 2013).

The teacher may use many different strategies to help her create a developmentally appropriate practice. According to Naeyc there are 3 core considerations of DAP: Knowing about child development and learning, Knowing what is individually appropriate, and Knowing what is culturally important (Naeyc (n.d.). At the Kindergarten age children’s vocabularies are expanding and they form foundations in many of the various subjects.

It is important that when creating a curriculum for Kindergarteners you keep in mind the state standards, as well as the physical and intellectual development of each individual child. Dear parent/Guardians, My name is Mrs. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to my Kindergarten classroom.

We will begin this year with some really fun activities that will help us get to know one another. The purpose of this unit is to meet the state standards and guidelines.

We will focus on physical development, cognitive development, and social emotional development. The majority of the lesson plans have purposeful play implemented in the plan. This is to develop the mental tools required for successful development throughout the year and beyond. Dramatic play’s purpose is do develop social skills and metal tools required for progress throughout the year and beyond. Purposeful play is implemented throughout the unit and for that same reason.

By the end of this unit your child will be able to follow along with a story. Remaining focused is a key factor in this lesson and will be throughout all stages of development. They will be able to recall characters in the story, explain the plot, and remember small detail with the guidance of the teacher. I will be sending home a weekly newsletter informing you with details on the important skills that are covered that week.

I will also send home an activity page for you to complete with your child. I ask you to take this time to go over and recall the areas of focus for the week. I believe that children learn from their interactions and support from those at school and home.

Communication is important and always helpful, so I encourage you to feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns that you may have. I will be using several assessments though out the year in my classroom to help me get to know your child better and understand their areas of strengths and weaknesses.

I will be using the information gathered from each of the assessments to track progress of the student and improve student learning. This will also be a way for me to keep you informed on your child’s progress. Your children will learn to express themselves and what they know about the world around them through are and dramatic play. Purposeful and free play will develop them physically.

The healthy foods theme will be used to keep their attention while they explore their natural scientific curiosity while learning place shapes and colors into groups. With Warmest Regards, Mrs. Espinosa -Content Lesson Plan and Assessment Content Area or Developmental Focus: Listening and Speaking- comprehension Age/Grade of Children: Kindergarten Length of Lesson: 45 minutes Developmental Domain Lesson Plan and Assessment Children learn through play everyday. In our text we learned, “play is an active and enjoyable activity that is internally motivated, process-oriented, and directed by the players” (Jaruszewicz, C., 2013). There are many ways for children to learn through play.

Some examples include: sensory play, construction play and active play. No matter what kind of play, play encourages children to think, be creative, use their imaginations and solve problems while having fun.

When working together through creative play students will learn to communicate and make friends. When children enjoy what they are doing they are happy and gaining new knowledge. Free Play/Center Plan Center Overview Center Plan Theme: Healthy Choices; Fruits and vegetables Age/Developmental Level: Kindergarten Center Layout Conclusion Our goal as educators is to work with parents/guardians and students to build a learning environment that fosters student experiences and what they know. Having the best instructional plans and practices will allow you to identify any problems that that your students may face and provide appropriate learning experiences. It is our job to plan and build an appropriate curriculum that is meaningful and beneficial to each individual child.

Overall, we want to be sure that our students are learning things to the best of their potential. References -Alabama State Board of Education. Alabama Learning Exchange/Standards. Although an actual description does not exist as to what songs can comprise a greatest-hits collection, it is generally assumed that the disc will contain the biggest and best-charting singles that have been issued by an artist. So it may seem odd for to release a greatest-hits collection when the group has had just one Top 40 pop singles' hit in their long career; but if you factor in the amount of rock radio airplay given to these songs, then contains, in essence, the greatest hits of. This one is for the adolescent males. But then, again, men never really get past that, so, yeah, this one is for all post-pubescent males.

Directed by Dwight H. Little, Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid is the sequel to 1997's tongue-in-cheek Anaconda, though none of the original cast have returned. The film chronicles a.

And, boy, you will sure see a lotta them in the theater, completely enamored by the CGI anacondas that look about ready to say, 'This Page Cannot Be Displayed', every time they pause in a close-up shot, right before they gobble someone up. This B-grade sequel of sorts could just as well have been called Anaconda 2, instead it gets called Anacondas.

Anaconda 2 movie watch online

The infamous scrabble 's' tactic employed to collect cheap, easy points by adding an 's' to the other guy's word. Anacondas sees a bunch of six, pile on to a dingy dinghy captained by the very dishy Johnny Messner playing Bill Johnson. The group includes super-ambitious Jack (Matthew Marsden), super-supposed-to-be-hot Sam (KaDee Strickland) and super-she-dog Gail (Salli Richardson-Whitfield), and is on an expedition to collect samples of the Blood Orchid, a flower that is an elixir of youth and longevity. The Blood Orchid is also the reason why the anacondas get so big, but it isn't the reason why they are in Borneo. The reason they are so far away from South America is quite simply this - you cannot have a monster movie without a monster. And the monster should be located in the same geographical unit as the crew.

Who would have guessed? Anyway, as the expedition wears on, every fathomable tragedy strikes the group. First, one of them nearly gets eaten by a croc, then their boat takes a nice little dive down a waterfall, then they have a few badass anacondas for stalkers, then one of them gets eaten, another turns traitor, and basically something and all keeps happening to just keep the story going. And somehow, it works. The slipshod shtick works. It manages to involve the audience.

Every time the giant reptile slithers around, waiting to pounce on any of the unsuspecting junta, you wanna scream, 'Watch out! There's a Gigantosaurus Anacondakus on your ass!' The movie has a few 'Spooked Ya' moments.
